病理医やレジデントの日々の仕事に有用な，外科病理の実践的マニュアル，改訂第2版．名著“Rosai and Ackerman's Surgical Pathology”創出したBarnes-Jewish and St. Louis Children's Hospital, The Lauren V. Ackerman Laboratory of Surgical Pathologyのスタッフが，同書をより使いやすい形で提供しようとの意図で執筆した実践的マニュアルである．人体のすべての解剖学的部位をカバーし，各章では，組織の取り扱い，肉眼的観察，肉眼解剖および診断，処理，標本作成，顕微鏡的診断，特別な考察，診断レポートなどを取り上げる．テキストの形式は，検索のしやすさで名高い他の専門分野（内科，腫瘍科，外科など）のワシントン・マニュアルと同様のものを採用している．
本書自体には写真は収載されず，LWW社の本書専用ウェブサイトで，検索機能付きの本編全文と，フルカラーの図2,200枚を収録したオンライン版画像集が提供される．
